A lightweight summer coat, like a Mac, is a style icon in its own right
It doesn’t need to be encumbered with
scarves, umbrellas, brooches, bags
in endless colours
It needs this
One dress
one pair of shoes
one handbag
one hat or umbrella
all in toning colours
ideally beige and black
If you want to be really stylish
you have to keep it really simple
yes even a raincoat
Don’t do up the buttons
Tie the belt in a knot
Don’t belt it properly
or you will look like a schoolgirl
I was told that when I was 18
by a very stylish woman
I thought she was mad
Who cares I thought
Now I understand
It is the little things that matter
Of course it doesn’t really matter does it
you can do what you want with your coat
Often it’s one of the last items we think about
We leave the house
and it’s raining
So we go back
and grab anything
But really
if you always knew where your beautiful lightweight coat was
you could take it with you without a second’s thought
Trip out of the house like Holly Golightly
A lightweight coat is a great investment piece
The summer sales are on
So go and invest!
