Layers are the perfect option for anyone who
feels the cold
or
gets hot then cold
then hot again
But layers are also really stylish
practical
(especially at this time of year)
and
offer a great opportunity
to mix
colours
and texture
As the seasons change and
thank goodness
we move into spring
(sorry southern hemisphere!)
layering your clothes is a great option
I don’t intend that you should look like an eskimo
all bundled up
I’m thinking elegant stylish layers
Items that are great for stylish layers are
silk shirts
tank tops
scarves
poncho
cardigan
So here are 3 layering styling tips to help you create
your signature layering look
Styling tip #1
Contrast fabrics
A silk shirt with a cashmere tank top is a great contrast
A cotton tee shirt and a woollen jumper
A leotard style body under an angora cardigan
Pair a structured fabric (cotton) with an unstrctured one (angora)
The contrast creates interest and gives your outfit dimension
rather than looking bulky or thrown together
Styling tip #2
Don’t be too covered up
Successful layering reveals glimpses of all layers
With a sleeveless jumper you see the sleeves of the shirt below
With a poncho you see the body of the top underneath
With a scarf you see the bottom section of the tee underneath
When you’re layering it can be tempting to keep adding pieces
but the key is to make sure you can actually see the layers
It keeps your outfit feeling light modern and intentional
rather than heavy or overdone
Styling tip #3 Contrast textures
Contrasting texture adds interest to your outfit
A silk shirt paired with a fur gilet
It’s about creating depth
Think smooth (p)leather against soft wool
or
chunky knits over silky camisoles
or
suede next to crisp cotton
The play of different textures adds visual interest
and makes even the simplest neutral layers look
elevated
Try it for yourself
this weekend
Style is courage
Be courageous
